US Department of the Treasury Mulls Commemorative $1 Trump Coin Featuring ‘Fight, Fight, Fight’ Phrase

In honor of the semiquincentennial of the United States' independence, the Treasury is exploring the minting of a $1 coin depicting former President Donald Trump with a clenched fist under an Stars and Stripes and the words “fight, fight, fight”.

Historical Reference

This inscription overtly refers to what Trump shouted following surviving an assassination effort four months before he gained a return to the Oval Office.

Government Announcement

US Treasurer Brandon Beach shared a draft design of the coin on this week via X, saying: “No fake news here. These concepts honoring America’s 250th birthday and [Trump] are legitimate.”

The post – which boosted another commentator commenting on the proposed design – mentioned that Beach looked “excited to reveal additional details” after the resolution of the temporary shutdown that commenced after late Wednesday when opposition lawmakers insisting on changes on medical care and other funding matters withheld the approval necessary to pass a GOP-supported spending legislation.

Legal Background

As highlighted, in 2020, at the close of his first administration, Trump enacted cross-party law empowering the Treasury head to issue $1 coins during the year 2026 that are “emblematic of the United States 250th anniversary”.

Appearance Components

The obverse of the coin on whose proposed design Beach weighed in Friday featured Trump’s portrait alongside “Freedom”, “In God we Trust”, and “from 1776 to 2026”.

The reverse referenced the assassination attempt at a political rally in the state of Pennsylvania last year, when law enforcement said a shooter wounded Trump’s hearing and wounded two others before being fatally shot by the US Secret Service.

Trump lifted his fist after the shooting – one of two efforts on his life for him as he campaign victoriously for a second presidential term in 2024 – and exclaimed, “Fight, fight, fight!” with an national banner looming nearby.

Department Comment

A response from a Treasury representative clarified that the concept which Beach’s online update discussed was not the “definitive coin design”. But the comment maintained that “this proposal effectively captures the persistent ethos of our nation and democratic system, even in the midst of major hurdles”.

Political Backdrop

Trump’s public support on generally has dropped to low levels, as his second administration has reduced health coverage and food aid that benefits the poor, while also implementing import taxes that came before a documented rise in consumer prices.

Additionally, the government has also sent US military troops into the public areas of various municipalities, axed roughly half a billion dollars in funding for vaccines such as the ones that played a role in stopping the coronavirus crisis, and faced challenges to contain a controversy over his former association with deceased sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein.
