Top-ranked Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of High Performance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and earned a historic £11m in prize money.
She received almost eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking 13-month break after the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
