It has been confirmed that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Significant Comeback for the Franchise
The actors will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. Speculation suggests their cameos will probably be featured in a future-set scene, considering the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.
This marks the sixth film in the global Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who was behind most of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several notable actors in key parts:
- Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
