NFL Recap: Denver Narrowly Beat Hapless Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
During a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Broncos managed to secure a close win over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz provided the late decisive three-pointer to seal the hard-fought win.
Dominant Display Seals Game
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following conceding a safety in the second half. Remarkably, the Jets could only produce just 82 total net yards during the contest.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard field goal with just over five minutes remaining.
Record Difficulties for Jets Offense
In spite of their horrendous offensive display, the Jets still had possession with a chance to score a possible winning score. But Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion rather than calling on kicker Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
Fields had difficulties all game, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets ended up with negative ten net yards passing, the lowest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," Glenn commented following the game.
