A Heap of Anime Updates Dropped Over the Holidays
The Christmas holidays present a multitude of activities considerably more enjoyable than scanning the headlines: opening presents, getting stuffed on festive fare, and harnessing meditation skills to refrain from yelling at loved ones. I hope you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling announcements surfaced over the holidays, and should you didn't see any, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)
Truly the most shocking revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt more episodes. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which is seen as a positive development. However, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, at this point, they could be trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now everyone is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was another outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio famous for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two
Shortly after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not yet been announced.
